Blood and water bible

Question : What does the spirit the water and the blood in 1 John mean? Answer : Greetings, friend. I can certainly understand why you asked about 1 John ; it is one of the most difficult passages in Scripture to explain! Why so?

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. John ,35 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water…. Isaiah ,4 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel….

This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. At its most basic, 1 John is a counter claim to a belief that Jesus Christ came in water but not in blood. John beleives Jesus came both in water and blood.

The evangelist notes here what he, as an eyewitness of the crucifixion, had seen as a surprising fact. Whereon this surprise was founded cannot now be more than guessed at. Nor is it necessary here to discuss the reason or reasons why the apostle mentions the fact at all in his report, whether merely for historical accuracy and completeness, or as a possible proof of the actual death of Christ, which at an early date became a subject of doubt among certain Christian sects, or whether by it he wished to refer to the mystical relation of baptismal cleansing "water" and the atonement "blood" as signified thereby. Let it suffice to state that a reference often made to 1 John , 8 is here quite out of place. This passage, though used by certain Fathers of the church as a proof of the last-named doctrine, does not indeed refer to this wonderful incident of the crucifixion story.
