The original damper unit is replaced with our new upper wishbone and enables the vertical positioning of an adjustable telescopic damper. Built into the top mount is a negative camber angle of one degree. This tightens up the front end reducing understeer to produce a more rapid cornering response and superior road holding in all conditions This complete kit will transform the ride of your Spridget, install confidence during cornering and braking while increasing the comfort over uneven ground A must have for any Spridget fs fskit M — Front telescopic conversion for all Sprites or Midgets. Have you found this site useful? Help keep it on-line. The left column is the drivers side, the right, the passenger side of the vehicle. As you can see, lots of rust, cob webs, frozen bolts, etc. Mine were frozen solid and didn't want to budge. I'd tell you how I removed them simply E-mail me and I may tell you a very simple way to get them apart.
On a drive back from York, the passenger side lever arm damper came a bit loose, resulting in the car being undriveable over 40mph. We took the arm off the damper a LOT of effort and popped some spacers in to stop it wobbling so fearsomely. This worked really very well, taking some of the load off the top link and resulting in much more controllable damping at the front end. It uses a mini track rod end and part of a steering rack as an extra link to triangulate the top control arm, and a large strong bracket that bolts to the top of the lever arm, and to the inner wing where the telescopic damper bolts through. If I was doing this again, I would build the plate under the damper, giving a sneaky portion of negative camber.
The first version, announced at the end of June , [3] was essentially a slightly more expensive badge-engineered version of the MkII Austin-Healey Sprite deluxe version. The original 'frogeye' Sprite had been introduced specifically to fill the gap in the market left by the end of production of the MG T-type Midget as its replacement, the MGA had been a significantly larger and more expensive car with greater performance. Many existing MG buyers turned to the Sprite to provide a modern low-cost sports car and so a badge-engineered MG version reusing the Midget name made sense.
